Writing - choose own movie to critique.
Think about finding Neverland...specifically the character/setting, conflict/plot, and the resolution. Also think about how well each element was executed in the movie. Next class I will be instructing you how to write out a movie critique.

Week 7 - Homework for October 20, 2011


1. Writing - Write body paragraphs 1-3 of biography report.
 (Include all style techniques discussed in class. DU (underlined): 1-w/which clause, 2-ly, 3-strong verb, 4-quality adj, 5-www.asia.wub, 7-dual adj/adv/verbs. SO (superscripted only): 1-subject, 2-prepositional, 3-ly, 4-ing, 5-www.asia.wub, 6-VSS. DEC (dotted underline, use 1 *different* one per paragraph): 1-alliteration, 5-personification, 6-quote/conversation, 7-question/command, 8-3SSS, 9-simile/metaphor)

2. Vocabulary - next lesson
3. Fixits - next lesson
4.poem - next lesson

5. Literature: Continue your character file on Huckleberry Finn (bring this in each week, so we can discuss what you've observed. This will be completed and turned in for grading when the book is finished.
6. Literature: Begin to fill out the story chart. This will be worked on during the entire reading of the book.
7. Establish the importance of the setting/context of this story. Do a bit of author research and compile your findings into a creative format. Due November 3. Look at the Socratic questions found here for guidance.

Week 5 - Homework for October 6, 2011


 This week's homework is formatted a little differently.


  1. Literature 
    1. Peter Pan:
      1. Review the literary devices discussed in class. Look for 2 examples in each chapter of this week's reading of Peter Pan. 
      2. What is the overall setting of Peter Pan? How did it help articulate the message of the book?
      3. Who were the leading characters in the book? give a short blurb on each of them. (Think of our discussion on how we get to know a character. What do we observe about them that helps us understand who they are?) You can type up your answers, or you can compile your answers in some other creative format. Answers can be in bullet form.
    2. Gather for 2 poems. Identify 4 examples of literary devices in each poem. Mark them.
    3. Get a copy of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. We begin reading this next week.
  2. Writing - write a 3-paragraph story on the picture series available here. (FYI: This wasn't assigned in class.)
  3. Vocabulary - Quiz 1, lessons 1 - 4. Print the test here
  4. Poem 3 - you have 2 weeks to complete this. Due 10/19. 
  5. Correct any and all incomplete / incorrect work.

Week 1 - Homework for September 8, 2011

Adjustments that were made during class are as follows:
-No literature assignments or grammar assignments are to be completed. I wasn't able to explain them today during class. I will explain those assignments next week.

-Make sure that you read the appropriate chapters in Peter Pan & the blog post introducing Peter Pan.
-Please complete the vocabulary lesson. You don't need to type your sentences as long as you write them neatly.
-Please make sure that you type your papers and email me a copy. If you are using google docs, make sure that you 'share' the document with me. All required stylistic techniques are noted on the homework sheet.
